Teaching
Tommy is keen on sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for oboe playing with students from all backgrounds. His teaching of music began with his quintet Inventus in 2016, where they delivered workshops to primary pupils in the Hertfordshire region.

During his time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire he helped lead workshops with the Learning and Participation Ensemble (LEAP) in Merseyside and Wessex, and with the Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, a group of 80 musicians who encourage expression through music and dance.

Tommy took part in the annual New Horizons programme delivered by Quench Arts and Birmingham's Services For Education, receiving teacher training for individual and group instrumental lessons, as well as music service protocol, which he took with him into a role as oboe tutor for Services For Education from September 2019 to 2020.

In 2018, the Ingenium Academy in Winchester offered Tommy the chance to work as a pastoral and music mentor over the course of three weeks in a music summer school for young musicians aged 14 to 18. This involved providing a safe and encouraging environment; being responsible and organised for the collection of students from airports; training in child safeguarding, and giving musical advice in orchestral rehearsals. In 2019 Tommy was invited back to the course as marketing administrator, writing a daily blog on the activities within the school and documenting these through social media and promotional videos and images.

Following a successful three weeks with the Ingenium Academy in 2018, Tommy joined some of his colleagues as a pastoral and music mentor for the Sistema Europe Youth Orchestra project at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Responsibilities included ensuring students' safety at all times through liaising with chaperones; directing students to rehearsals from the welcome desk, and negotiating rehearsal spaces with instrumental tutors and the Conservatoire.

Tommy gained teaching roles with Coventry and Dudley Music Services in September 2022, as well as Birmingham's Services For Education in 2023. He is able to teach oboe and the other primary woodwind instruments, piano and ukulele.
